On Monday 09-30-13 at approximately 12:28 p.m. the Herrin Police Department was dispatched to the 1500 block of North 14th Street in Herrin, IL in reference to a burglary that had just occurred and a witness was following the suspects.
Herrin Police arrived and spoke to the witness. The witness was able to identify the residence in which the suspects entered. With assistance from the witness, Herrin Police identified two suspects.
After further investigation, Herrin Police arrested Joshua C. Helton, age 20, from Herrin, IL and Nathan A. Knapp, age 26, from Springfield, IL. Both men were charged with Residential Burglary and taken to the Williamson County Jail pending a court appearance before a Judge.

Today, Monday 6/03/13, Herrin Police received a report from the Huck’s store located at 520 South Park Avenue in Herrin in reference to a burglary. The burglary occurred on 6/03/13 at approximately 12:33 a.m. Surveillance video from the store showed the suspect taking cash from the safe and numerous cartons of cigarettes.
The Herrin Police Department needs help in identifying the person in this video. If anyone knows the identity of this person, please call the Herrin Police Department at 618-942-2106.
The City of Herrin will be having it’s annual Christmas parade on November 23rd at 6:00 p.m. The parade will start at the Herrin Middle School traveling west on Stotlar Street, then north on Park Avenue, ending at Ron Ward Chevrolet.
The annual City of Herrin “Trail of Treats” will be held on Wednesday, October 31st, from 4:00 p.m. til 6:00 p.m.
“Trick or Treating” will be held on Wednesday, October 31st, from 5:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m.
The Fire and Police Commission of the City of Herrin is compiling a current eligibility list for the position of Patrolman, from which future hires may be made.

On Saturday, 7/21/12, at approximately 11:05 p.m., the Herrin police responded to the 100 block of Newman Dr. in Herrin in reference to possible gunshots being fired.
Herrin police arrived and found evidence of possible gunshots. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a small dark colored sport utiltiy vehicle.
There were no injuries during the incident and no one was at home at the residence that was struck by the possible gunshot(s).
The investigation is on-going. The Herrin Police Department was assisted by the Energy Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.
The Herrin Police Department has identified Joshua Hileman, age 24, as being a potential suspect in the burglaries that occurred early Saturday morning, 3/31/12, at Burger Nook Cafe, Pizza Mike’s, and First Choice DUI Services.

Over the past several months, the Herrin Police Department has taken numerous reports, of vandalism, at the San Carlo Cemetary. These reports range from spray painting the buildings, damaging grave sites, and knocking over headstones.
